Free Crochet Unicorn Pattern – Calista the Unicorn!

Hellooo! How are you?! I’m so happy today, and do you know why? Because I’ve finally finished typing up my free crochet unicorn pattern!

Several years ago when I was first setting up my little business I spent a long time thinking about what I should call it. I didn’t want anything too specific in case I ended up branching out in a different direction. But at the same time I wanted something that felt like me! So I made a list of some of my favourite things, and (unsurprisingly to anyone who knows me!) unicorns came out featuring pretty heavily!

And so The Clumsy Unicorn was born!

Over the years I’ve crocheted any number of unicorns. Some small, some big, some standing, some sitting, but all super cute and cuddly!

Early this year I gave The Clumsy Unicorn a complete reboot, and of course high on the list of patterns to be released had to be a shiny new crochet unicorn!

She took a bit of working out, and a number of attempts at colour combinations before I found the one that I loved, but I am SO happy with her now that she’s finished! What do you think? Which colours will you choose for your crochet unicorn?!

Premium Pattern for Calista the Crochet Unicorn

Because one of my main goals is to spread as much happiness as possible throughout the world this version of Calista the Crochet Unicorn’s pattern is published completely free!

However, if you need a little bit more help then don’t worry – you can find a premium version of her pattern on LoveCrafts, Etsy & Ravelry that comes as a completely ad-free PDF file, with with 119 step-by-step photos!

Not bothered about the extra help and just want the bare bones? No problem, just keep reading!

Tools & Materials

Crochet Hooks:

2.0mm

2.5mm

You can use whichever hooks you have to hand but I like to use the Clover Amour hooks – they’re lovely to hold and super light so that you can keep crocheting for longer without your hands getting tired!

Yarn:

Ricorumi 001- White – 75g (3 balls)

Ricorumi 017 – Lilac – 25g (1 ball)

A small amount of fingering weight yarn in the colour you would like the horn to be. I use a colour that complements the mane, tail and hooves, but you can use whatever colour you’d like!

Alternative Yarns & Colours:

If you prefer to use a different yarn then go right ahead and use whichever you like! Just remember, that using a different yarn will probably result in your unicorn turning our at a slightly different size to mine.

If you want your unicorn to look as close as possible but can’t get hold of Ricorumi then I’ve listed the colour alternatives for Sirdayr Happy Cotton and  Scheepjes Catona here. The colours won’t be an exact match, but they are pretty close!

Ricorumi 001 (White) = Sirdar Happy Cotton 762 (Shower) = Scheepjes Catona 106 (Snow White)

Ricorumi 017 (Lilac) = Sirdar Happy Cotton 769 (Unicorn – how appropriate!) = Scheepjes Catona 226 (Light Orchid)

Other:
